Course Introduction

The course is ideal for students who are good at problem solving  and have a keen interest in the fundamental building blocks of the universe.

The topics covered are

1 Measurements and their errors

2 Particles and radiation

3 Waves

4 Mechanics and materials

5 Electricity

6 Further mechanics and thermal physics

7 Fields and their consequences

8 Nuclear physics

9 Astrophysics

As part of the course students will produce a detailed lab book which showcases their skills to carry out a scientific investigation alongside developing their ability to critically analyse data.

Students will also develop their problem-solving skills by applying the laws of the universe to a range of real life situations.

Assessment

A Level Physics is a linear subject, assessed at the end of two years of study.

Paper 1: structured and multiple choice questions on topics 1-5 including testing your practical skills.

Paper 2 structured and multiple choice questions 6-8 including testing your practical skills

Paper 3: covers all the content from the course testing, critical data analysis and structure questions on our choice of optional topic astrophysics

Practical Endorsement: your ability to carry out a scientific investigation is tested throughout the two years through a portfolio of experiments recorded in your lab book.
