Careers Programme

We are delighted to bring you this year’s Hanson Academy Careers Programme. As part of the eight benchmarks set out by the government to serve as a framework for improvement in careers provision, we are required as a school to strategically plan and implement a careers programme that meets the needs of all students.

The Gatsby Benchmarks were developed on behalf of the Gatsby Foundation by Sir John Holman. They define what world class careers provision in education looks like and provide a clear framework for organising the careers provision at our school. The benchmarks are enshrined in statutory guidance and as a careers team, it is our responsibility to oversee the implementation of the benchmarks in our education setting.

The 8 Gatsby Benchmarks are:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from careers and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each student
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance
  1. CDI Framework and Career Programme Learning Aims

In order to achieve all eight benchmarks, Hanson Academy’s careers programme supports students to plan, prepare and look forward to starting their careers. One of the ways in which this happens is through ensuring that students have acquired the skills, knowledge and attitudes they need for the world of work. Our careers programme is influenced by the CDI Career Development Framework which supports the process of career development involving the collection of skills, knowledge and attitudes. The CDI Career Development Framework outlines six key skills that are essential to career development; grow throughout life, explore possibilities, manage career, create opportunities, balance life & work and see the big picture. Within each of these skills are a set of learning aims that our career development programme and interventions in school will strive to achieve.

Each of the six key skills for career development has several learning aims to be achieved – these learning aims will be achieved from Year 7, all the way through to Year 11. These skill logos above will be present in every career related event that takes place a Hanson this year! In the next section, you will be able to see how these learning aims will be implemented in the schools’ careers programme.
