Key Stage 3
Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) is a mode of physical expression through movement, choreography and dialogue. The performing arts allows students to become more confident inside and outside of the classroom. It allows students to be spontaneous and explore their thoughts, feeling and emotions through expressive communication and body language with others. Learners have the creative freedom to explore real life situations and topics helping them to develop interpersonal skills.
Key Stage 4
Within BTEC Performing Arts (Dance and Drama), learners will develop their understanding of the performing arts by examining the work of performing arts professionals and the processes used to create performance and gain a broad understanding of performance work and influences.
This course will help learners to understand the requirements of being a performer (in acting, dance or musical theatre) across at least three performances and performance styles. Within this course learners will develop a practical understanding of how performing arts work is created. They will look at elements such as roles, responsibilities and the application of relevant skills and techniques. Learners will have the chance to explore practically the work of different professionals to develop an appreciation of the methods they use to explore a theme and communicate to audiences through their work. They will broaden their knowledge through observing existing repertoire and by learning about professionals’ approaches and how they create and influence performance material. This component will give learners an understanding of professional performing arts work and the processes and practices that contribute to the creation of a range of performance styles.
