Hanson take D&T to Cavendish Primary School
Hanson Academy have been working with Cavendish Primary on establishing a D&T curriculum. Year 3 have worked in teams to manufacture bug houses which they will fill with leaves, hay and other materials to create habitats for insects within the school grounds. Brian Russell, one of Hanson’s D&T technicians, supplied cutting boards for the children to be able to safely cut timber strips and loaned some additional equipment to enable manufacturing to take place. Groups of three or four students worked together for one hour to manufacture a bug house and 16 houses were made in total between the two Y3 classes. Children experienced sawing, drilling and gluing together with bending plastic sheet.
This short project follows on from when Year 6 visited the Academy in November to make poppy wreaths and it is hoped that that further collaborative work will take place over the coming year.
