Recent Events in KS3 PLC

Students have been engaging with revision materials in preparation for their KS3 assessments.
They have expressed that they enjoy their time in the KS3 PLC provision and see it as a supportive space where they can work effectively when they are unable to access mainstream lessons in the short term.
Y9 Boys Gardening Club

Since January, a group of dedicated year 9 boys have been actively involved in a school gardening project. Their commitment and team work have been inspiring, and their efforts have been recognised with the school entering them into a gardening competition against other schools.
To support their creativity and develop their horticultural knowledge, I had the pleasure of taking the boys on an educational visit to RHS Garden Harlow Carr. This trip provided inspiration and practical ideas that the boys were eager to bring back and apply to their own garden design.
Throughout the project the boys have received consistent support from staff. The headteacher, the site team, and I have all worked closely with them- offering guidance, resources and enough garden space that reflects the students hard work and growing skills.
We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved so far and look forward to seeing their progress as the competition approaches.
Police in School Sessions – Y7 & Y8

Over the past several weeks, a group of 14 KS3 students have taken part in a valuable and eye-opening intervention programme led by our local police within school. Delivered over six engaging sessions, the initiative aimed to inform, inspire, and empower students with knowledge and awareness around some of the most pressing issues facing young people today.
The sessions covered a range of impactful topics including knife crime, gang culture, speed awareness, and the dangers of illegal substances. Through interactive discussions and real-life case studies, students gained insight into the consequences of these actions—not just from a legal perspective, but through the lived experiences of those who have been affected.
A highlight for many students was the opportunity to get hands-on with police uniform and equipment, offering a glimpse into the day-to-day life of both police officers and paramedics. These sessions gave an insight into the roles of emergency service workers and offered students a better understanding of the responsibilities and challenges they face.
Throughout the programme, the emphasis remained on education, prevention, and making informed choices. The sessions not only opened up important conversations but also created a safe space for students to ask questions, reflect, and think critically about the influences around them.
To celebrate their commitment and engagement, each student has received a certificate of participation, recognising their effort in completing the programme.
This initiative has not only equipped our students with essential knowledge but has also strengthened the relationship between young people and local law enforcement—an important step toward safer, more connected communities.
We are incredibly proud of the students for their openness and participation, and we thank the police, Hanson staff and local Youth workers for their dedication to youth engagement and education.
