In Key Stage 4, we have selected an accredited course which meets the practical and academic interests of our aspiring sports people. This enables all learners the opportunity to progress within their favoured sports, evolve as confident sports leader and explore the current world of sport.

R184 – Contemporary Issues in Sport
In this unit you will sit a 1-hour external exam once coursework (R185 and R187) has been completed and submitted. This exam will be based around:
- Issues which affect participation in sport.
- The role of sport in promoting values.
- The implications of hosting a major sporting event for a city or country.
- Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs).
- The role National Governing Bodies (NGBs) play in the development of their sport.
- The use of technology in sport.
R185 – Performance and Leadership of in Sports Activities
In this unit you will be assessed practically as a performer and as a sports leader. You will be required to plan, prepare and evaluate your performance from both practical assessments. This unit will be based around:
- Key components of performance.
- Applying practice methods to support improvement in a sporting activity.
- Organising and planning a sports activity session.
- Leading a sports activity session.
- Reviewing your own performance in planning and leading a sports activity session.
R186 – Increasing awareness of Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
In the unit you will explore diverse Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA); given the opportunity to plan, perform and evaluate your performance in an OAA selected by the Academy. This unit will be based around:
- Provision for different types of outdoor and adventurous activities in the UK.
- Equipment, clothing and safety aspects of participating in outdoor and adventurous activities.
- Plan for and be able to participate in an outdoor and adventurous activity.
- Evaluate participation in an outdoor and adventurous activity.
