New Y7 Transition Information
Dear Parent/Carer
We acknowledge the trust you have put into our school, and we endeavour to make sure
that every young person who starts Year 7 with us settles in quickly and flourishes at
Hanson. We are proud of our recent Ofsted rating and appreciate the contribution our
students and their families made.
In addition to this we ensure each child is provided with an enriching academic and social
environment, one in which they can achieve their full potential. We encourage you to
engage with the transition events and look forward to welcoming your child to Hanson.
This pack contains vital information about the transition process, with key dates, and how to
complete the admissions forms. As we are full this year it is important that you complete
forms and get measured for free uniform promptly.

If a paper version is required instead, please contact the school.

your child. However, if you have any desire to withhold your details from these services,
please inform me as soon as possible. I can be contact on the school telephone number

summer for any additional purchases or exchanges, we will communicate these dates once

The school has a policy that staff can administer medicine if you consent for us to do so. All
medicines must be in the original container as dispensed by the pharmacy.
Please complete Administering medicines form by clicking on the link or scan the QR code.
This must be completed by 5pm on Friday 22nd May 2026.

MY CHILD AT SCHOOL APP (MCAS)
The MCAS app is the preferred method of communication with parents. The app will give
you real time notifications of your child’s progress and behaviour at school and the main
way we will send messages to you. The app is also used to manage payments for school
meals and trips. Further information about the app will be given during the Transition
Evening in July (see below).
TRANSITION PROGRAMME
Our transition programme is comprehensive and includes visits to the children in their
Primary schools in the Summer term. We will use this time to meet them and allow them to
ask questions about life at Hanson. We will also use this time to speak to Primary School
staff to gather important information about your child. This will ensure we place your child
in the correct form class for the September start.
Transition Day — Wednesday 1st July 2026
Your child will spend the full day going to lessons, meeting staff and students and having
lunch with us.
Please make sure they wear their Primary school uniform on this day.
The day starts at 8.15am and finishes at 2.45pm. A free meal will be provided on this day or
your child can bring their own packed lunch. The uniform providers will be present during
the day to ‘measure’ any students who have not completed their free uniform forms (see
above).
Additional mini-transition days will be held for any students who may benefit from smaller
and more bespoke time in the school. These will be organised by the SEN team in
conjunction with the Primary schools. These will be held on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th
June.
If you intend to bring your child to school by car, please arrive at either the ‘turning circle’
on the approach to GOAL’s car park or at the pathway entrance next to Grove House school
car park before 8.15am. If arriving on foot, students may use the GOALs, Grove House or
Sutton Avenue entrance. If you will be collecting your child at the end of the day, please
collect from the same location. Parents/Carers should not arrive before 2.45pm to avoid
congestion at our regular school closure time.
Transition Evening — Wednesday 1st July 2026
This evening runs between 5.00pm and 7.00pm and give parents and carers the opportunity
to visit the school and meet your child’s form tutor. This is an extremely important evening
for you to meet your child’s tutor and forge an effective relationship that will benefit your
child’s progress. You will also have the chance to find out general information about the
school day, the start of term and all other relevant details that will allow your child a
smooth transition in September.
Summer School – Monday 24th to Friday 28th August 2026; 8.25-1.30pm
Although Summer School is not compulsory, we strongly advise your child to attend this
week, so they can meet the other students, its staff and familiarise themselves with the
building, our rules and expectations. They will be starting school the week after and this
week goes a long way in preparing them for ‘moving up’. We aim to provide a good balance
of academic, enrichment and transitional activities during this week. This is to enable the
students to familiarise themselves with the demands of secondary school but also build
confidence, friendships and personal skills they will need through their time at Hanson.
We will follow the normal school timetable as closely as possible, but we also understand
this is still the summer holidays and aim to have lots of fun and include different types of
activities not normally carried in term time.
If you want your child to attend Summer School please complete the form on the link below
or scan the QR code. This must be completed by 5pm on Friday 22nd May 2026.

We look forward to meeting you and your child over the next term and if you have anything
you wish to further discuss, please contact the school on the details at the top of this letter.
Yours faithfully
Mr Sam Sheedy
Principal
